Hartington is a beautiful village sitting centrally within the area of the Peak District called the ‘White Peaks’; the limestone part of the Peak District consisting of rolling hills, dales (valleys), dry stone walls, pretty villages and a truly extensive footpath network.

Hartington Village
Hartington is one of the most popular villages in the Peak District. Many excellent walks start from the village. It also has three teashops, two coaching inns, a couple of gift shops, an antique shop, two grocers and newsagents, and a post office. It also benefits from a petrol station/garage and a highly regarded doctors surgery.
The village is famous for its duck pond and well known cheese shop where genuine Stilton cheese and other local cheeses are produced and sold. There is also a fine Medieval church, and a magnificent Jacobean Hall.

Hartington has one of the finest locations in the Peak District. With many popular walks starting from the village you can enjoy such gems as the River Dove, Beresford Dale (passing the fishing temple where The Compleat Angler was written by Isaac Walton and Charles Cotton), Wolfscote Dale, Biggin Dale and Dovedale.
Hartington is also close to the famous Tissington Trail and within a few miles of two further popular cycle trails (with an average length of 15 miles), one of which is the Manifold Trail. The National Cycle Network route 54, on bridleways, trails and extremely quiet lanes, comes through Hartington.

Love Knowl Cottage in Hartington, this is our second year staying in late August and we are already talking about booking next year. Wonderful countryside without driving and lovely facilities in the village. Heartily recommend the Devonshire Arms.

dove Cottage
Delighful wee cottage, perfect for 2 (+dog 🙂 ). Clean, comfortable and well cared-for.
Couldn’t fault it and we will probably stay again. Hartington is a pretty wee village, 2 pubs and 2 foodie shops, not too “touristy”.

MANIFOLD Cottage
We had a wonderful stay, loved the village and surroundings and plan to return with our bikes. Loved Manifold Cottage tucked away, very peaceful and also enjoyed our favourite Netflix shows in the evening!
